The first 1,000 days, from conception to age two, and the next 1,000 days up to age five, are crucial periods for a child’s development. War and toxic stress during these periods can permanently damage brain development and even transmit trauma from generation to generation.

That is why investing in early childhood, through preschool education, parental support, and psychosocial programs, not only saves lives but is also essential to breaking the vicious cycle of violence.
