TELEFONO AZZURRO AT THE 11TH INTERNATIONAL CONSULTATION ON CHILD HELPLINES: a global voice for mental health, violence prevention, and the future of
Child Protection
From June 24th to 26th, 2025, Telefono Azzurro participated in the 11th International Consultation on Child Helplines, organized by Child Helpline International in Livingstone, Zambia. This high-level global event brought together representatives from child helplines, governments, international organizations, experts, and – most importantly – young people from around the world to discuss the increasingly central role of child helplines in child protection systems.
With the theme “A Global Voice for Mental Health, Violence Prevention and Envisioning Child Helplines for 2030 and Beyond”, the Consultation served as a crucial platform to strengthen international collaboration and develop future-oriented strategies, with a special focus on mental health, violence prevention, and the inclusion of children’s and adolescents’ voices.
Key topics addressed during the event included:
The vital role of child helplines in emergency settings
How to make helplines more effective and accessible
The potential of international cooperation to reach children in distress
The need to build safer and more accessible digital spaces for listening and support
Telefono Azzurro contributed by sharing its AI-driven innovations, including smart chatbots designed to guide children and adolescents more effectively toward the support they need, through a pre-engagement triaging system. This technology helps accelerate response times and expand the helpline’s reach, supporting a greater number of vulnerable children and youth.
The shared goal of the event was clear: to build a global network capable of strengthening child protection systems, investing in the future of helplines as a fundamental point of access for listening, rapid intervention, and continuous support.
Telefono Azzurro reaffirms its commitment to working alongside international partners to ensure that every child and adolescent around the world feels heard, protected, and supported.
