sexual abuse and AI: UE UPDATES

From June 24th to 26th, 2025, Telefono Azzurro participated in the 11th International Consultation on Child Helplines, organized by Child Helpline International in Livingstone, Zambia.

Le segnalazioni arrivate alla linea d’ascolto del 114 – Emergenza Infanzia, il servizio di pubblica utilità istituto e promosso dal Dipartimento per le Politiche della Famiglia – Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri e gestito da Telefono Azzurro, evidenziano come soltanto nel 2024, sono stati gestiti ben 104 casi di bullismo e 14 casi di cyberbullismo. Tra i minori coinvolti i più piccoli avevano soltanto 5 anni, con una maggioranza di richieste d’aiuto arrivate dal Lazio, Toscana, Sicilia e Veneto.

On June 5, 2025, on the occasion of the audience of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors (PCPM) with Pope Leo XIV, Professor Ernesto Caffo, President of SOS Il Telefono Azzurro Foundation and member of the Commission since 2018, participated in the meeting bringing to the center of attention the urgent issue of the protection of children and adolescents in the digital context of artificial intelligence.

The event took place at a pivotal moment, coinciding with the end of Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union — a timely opportunity to raise EU-level awareness on the growing issues of missing children, particularly in cases of parental abductions and runaway adolescents.
