The presence of harmful content for children and adolescents in the media represents a particular current problem. For this reason, extra vigilance is required by parents. It is not uncommon for some children to access pornography online
What can a parent do in order to prevent a child from seeing violent or sexually explicit on the Internet?
- It is possible to limit the possibility of exposure to inappropriate content by setting up parental filters and controls on devices, such as filters on the home Internet, YouTube Safety Mode and Google Safe Search by using the technological tools available on smartphones, tablets, computers and search engines.
- Start a conversation with your child by sharing with her/him contents appropriate to her/his age and explain that there are some contents online which are not appropriate for children and/or young people; remind her/him that it is good to refer to an adult (e.g. a parent, a relative, a teacher) able to help her/him, if s/he finds something that upsets and/or annoys her/him.
